Welcome to the Via de la Plata!
The Silver Route is an ancient Roman road that linked Mérida with Astorga , built in the 1st century AD to facilitate the passage of troops and goods. Its name comes from the Arabic balata , meaning "paved road" , and has no relation to the precious metal. Over time, this route was used by pilgrims traveling from southern Spain to Santiago de Compostela , becoming a path of spirituality, history, and culture . Today, it offers a unique and less-traveled experience , ideal for those seeking an authentic trip steeped in heritage .
